Top Lies spread by Indian Media in August 2015

OpinIndia has done a yeoman’s service by compiling #presstitutes’ blatant lies in the month of August. One can use this to silence those who use the epitaph Modi-Bhaktas for those who criticize the Mainstream Media.

Top Lies spread by Indian Media in August 2015

Big Lies:

1. 1 August 2015: India Today group – Salim Khan says Salman being targetted for his religion.

India Today ran an interview of Salim Khan done by Rajdeep Sardesai and presented a blaring headlineScreenshot_2015-08-01-22-54-06 that Salim Khan says Salman is being targetted because of being a Muslim. There were two interviews done, one in English and one in Hindi. Initially the English interview was released. In this version Salim Khan doesn’t even come close to saying anything like this. Yet, as seen in screen-grab of the same interview, the tickers claim he said something like this.

The 2nd interview in Hindi was later released. In this again, Rajdeep repeatedly goads Salim Khan to give him the answer he wants:

Rajdeep: Is Salman a soft target because he is a Muslim?

Salim Khan: Not only Muslim, Muslim and a celebrity. If an ordinary Muslim from behrampeda or bhindi bazaar would have given this statement, would this road be closed then?

From the above Salim Khan made it clear that If Salman was being targetted for being a muslim, other muslims too would have been targetted. But the difference between Salman and other muslims was he is a celebrity, hence he gets targetted. Editor of India Today, Shiv Aroor too accepted that since they have put it in quotes, it should have been an exact quote. Obviously it was a massively twisted quote. Perhaps this is what prompted India Today to later delete the tweet which said “Salim Khan says Salman being targetted for his religion”

2. 3 August 2015: Hindustan Times – Asaram turns saint in the pages of NCERT textbook

This story began with an ANI News report which said in Rajasthan in a class III textbook, Asaram was listed as Untitled“Country’s famous saints”. Hindustan Times went ahead with this story and for reason claimed that this was found in an NCERT textbook. They even got quotes from various individuals panning the NCERT board. Fact is, if one checked the NCERTtextbooks for class III from Rajasthan, such a chapter is not present in any of the books. Eventually, the Hindustan Times published a small corrigendum apologising for their incorrect report, although the web version still carries the wrong report. This was after the MHRD forced them to issue a corrigendum.

3. 5 August 2015: The Hindu – Govt orders all officers to turn up for Modi’s I-day address. “Tone and Tenor of circular surprises many”  A Central Government circular

Untitledmandated that all officials be present at the PM’s Independence Day speech. Although this is a routine cricular, The Hindu made it sure that it would alarm you by adding a theme to this news that suggested this circular had “surpised many by its tone and tenor”. As it turns out, a few days after this front page burst, The Hindu had to publish a small clarification in the inner pages which said that their earlier story was an “exaggeration of facts” and that the circular in question was in line with the “standard practice”.

4. 6 August 2015: India Today – Sonia says Naga Peace deal Unacceptable.  India Today claimed that Sonia Gandhi had termed the Naga Peace Deal “unacceptable”. UntitledThey published a story with this title, but nowhere in the story was the exact quote of Sonia Gandhi given, where she claimed the deal was “unacceptable”. As it turns out, she never said this but it could have been said by Sitaram Yechury of CPI(M). Sonia on the other hand, seemed more miffed at being kept in the dark about this historic deal. India Today showed great speed an alacrity and deleted the wrong tweet and corrected the story on the very same day, and gave it a new headline “Sonia says Naga peace deal shows Modi govt’s arrogance”

5. 11 August 2015: TheWire.in – BJP, Including Modi when he was CM, blocked GST for political ends. This claim has been made repeatedly by Congress leaders but it was surprising to see a news site take this stand too. We had written a separate post on this, where we showed via news articles of the time, that Non-BJP states including Congress states had opposed UPA’s GST bill for various reasons. Also, the BJP states which did oppose GST then, had clearly spelt out their reasons and demands, and since these demands were now satisfied and the GST bill was amended, they had supported this revised GST. TheWire.in did not include both these facts in their one-sided post which was written by M K Venu.

6. 15 August 2015 : Mail Online – The terrible plight of Indian elephants In the above piece, it was claimed that Elephants are tortured at the Guruvayur temple in Kerala. It claimed that Elephants were “Chained to the same spot for 20 years, Beaten into submission at secret jungle training camps.” All the claims made in this article were demolished in a detailed post by Prem Panicker on a blog.

7. 18 August 2015: All Media – Major relief for Congress in National Herald case, sources say Enforcement Directorate will close it We had written a separate post on this, where we showed hoe various news sites like CNN IBN, India Today, Firstpost and Zee News had misreported this news. First of all, none of the stories highlighted the fact  the National Herald case with the ED was different from the National Herald case going on in courts. Secondly the ED never had any open National Herald case, so question of “closing” it never arose. ED only refused to file a PMLA case in the issue on “technical grounds” and since it felt it was too early. Some reports suggested this was due to “lack of evidence”. Keeping in mind all these distortions, the use of the phrase “major relief” was highly misleading.

8. Reuters and then Indian Media – Pakistan cancels Commonwealth conference to highlight ‘Kashmir issue’ The story begins with Pakistan, the host nation, not inviting the J & K speaker at the Commonwealth conference in Islamabad. To this, India objected strongly and threatened to boycott the conference. Now, as per the Reuters report (which was written by a Pakistani journalist based on inputs of Pakistani officials), Pakistan cancelled the conference “to raise the Kashmir issue”. This was perceived as a “hardening of stance by Pakistan”, to “provoke India“, by many Indian MSM outlets. Fact is, Pakistan did not cancel the conference. The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) issued a statementthat the Executive Committee cancelled the meet because Pakistan did not invite the J & K speaker. In fact, certain sites like The Hindu and CNN IBN even reported that This should have been considered a  out of  members of the CPA executive committee voted to cancel the talks because Pakistan had ” violated the CPA constitution by not inviting an eligible member” . This was a diplomatic win for India, but it was portrayed in the media differently.

921 August 2015: All Media – Misbah Quadri denied flat in a Mumbai colony for being a Muslim. This news broke in May 2015. Soon after it surfaced, follow up reports suggested the story was false but only now has the story been proved to be false. Quadri had then claimed that she was being discriminated against because of her religion and was not being given a flat in a colony. The media did not employ any sort of fact check and blared the story all over. Later some outlets like Hindustan Times & Mid-day decided to look at the other side and did not find evidence to back her claim. Now, the cops have finished the investigation and found no evidence to support her claim. There were other Muslim families living in the same colony and none had been persecuted.

10. 21 August 2015: Times Now Congress Sweeps Civic Polls in Rajasthan First the cold facts and figures: In the Rajasthan Civic Polls, BJP managed to win clear majority in 66 of the 129 local bodies, and claimed to be able to form the board in another 14 bodies. Even if we take 66, it is above the 50% of 129 and can surely mean only 1 thing. Yet, Times Now had this coverage: “Congress Sweeps Civic Polls, Makes Lalitgate Inroads “. To add to the joke, On the very next day, Times of India carried a story in print as well as online, which contradicted Times Now. It said “BJP sweeps Civic Polls in Rajasthan, Congress fails to capitalize on Lalitgate”. Yes 2 media outlets from the same group had 2 different interpretations of the same set of numbers!

11. 21 August 2015: PTI – India’s GDP Can Double in 3 Years: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu PTI claimed that Suresh Prabhu, at a fucntion in Kolkata claimed that India’s GDP can double in 3-3.5 years. Simple arithmetic would show that to achieve this India would have to grow at a minimum of 20 odd % per year (compounded annually). Even the improbability of this figure did not throw off PTI. Hence, Minister Suresh Prabhu had to clarify on twitter. He said this was a case of “complete misreporting” and he had said it would take 6-6.5 years for GDP to double. He also expressed his frustration that so many sites were carrying PTI’s wrong report. We could find 2 sites, which relied on an IANS report, which correctly reported that Suresh Prabhu had 6-6.5 years.

12. 21 August 2015: PTI – India calls off NSA level talks with Pakistan. PTI reported this Breaking News which was soon picked up by all media outlets. It was based on PTI’s interpreattion of India’s strongly worded response to Pakistan’s statement on the NSA level talks. India had only said that they cannot talk if Pakistan does not honour its commitments, but PTI in the hurry of being the first to break this news, misreported it completely. ANI News, was 3 minutes late as compared to PTI, but had the facts right after they confirmed the same with Government sources.

13. 22 August 2015: Janata Ka Reporter and Hindustan Times – Delhi court says Delhi police’s action was ‘actuated by political vendetta,’ on Commando Surinder’s arrest In what in reality is an exhibit of poor knowledge of English and legal terms, Janata ka Reporter and Hindustan Times claimed  that a Delhi court had stated that Commando Surinder’s arrest was “actuated by political vendetta”, and hence he was given bail. The exact statement of the court is as follows:

“Furthermore, it has been averred that this case is actuated by political vendetta. Thus, no prejudice is likely to be caused to the prosecution in case the accused persons are admitted to bail,”

The key word here is “averred” which both the media outlets seem to have misunderstood. “Averred” means to have been “stated” and in legal parlance, means “allege as a fact in support of a plea”. In the current context, the judge had said that the defendant i.e. Commando Surinder had stated that the case was of political vendetta. It was not the judge’s observation, as interpreted by Janata ka Reporter & Hindustan Times. Also, the reason for giving bail was that “none of the offences for which they have been booked were punishable with jail term for more than seven years and there was no chance of their absconding or fleeing from justice“.

14. 24 August 2015: All Media – The “Pervert” who “molested” Jasleen Kaur This case is far too well known now. Mid-day , DailyO & Times Now called him a “Pervert”. His crime was reported to be “sexual harassment” and “molestation”. These are just a few examples but media, relying only on the version of Jasleen Kaur branded a Delhi youth as a criminal. All this, even when Jasleen’s first tweet only claimed that the guy had made “obscene remarks”. Later, an independent eyewitness trashed Jasleen’s version and said although the guy might have violated a traffic law, it was a standard altercation between Jasleen (who was volunteering to be manage traffic) and the guy. Many more issues further came up and slowly Jasleen’s claims seemed to be exaggerated to the say the least. But MSM had ruined the “pervert’s” name on the very first day, without a basic cross check.

15. 26 August 2015: All Media – Sensationalised reporting of Census data. “Lies, damned lies, and statistics”, is an age old phrase, and Indian MSM, when faced with huge data like the Religious Census figures, used all sort of twisted arguments to present whatever they wanted. Some like The Hindu andNDTV reported that “Muslim population growth slows” while not mentioning that Hindu population rate of growth also fell, and Muslim rate of growth was still the highest among all religions. PTI claimed that “Hindu population declined”, but the fact is the absolute population of Hindus grew, only the proportion of Hindus declined.

Miscellaneous Lies:

13 August 2015: PTI – Sonia pulls up Agriculture Minister for ‘outrageous’ statement on farmers’ suicides This PTI report was carried by Mid-day as it is , and was later changed by Mid-day when the error they carried from the PTI story was pointed out. The report said “Sonia pulls up Agriculture Minister”. Since Sonia neither appointed the minister, nor is in power, she couldnt technically “pull up” the minister. Mid-day editor Sachi Kalbag accepted the error and changed the headline later.

2. 4 August 2015: CNN IBN – BJD joins JDU, CPI, CPM, RSP, NCP, TMC, AAP & Congress protest against suspension of MPs from LS IBN claimed that along with other UPA faithfuls, BJD too protested against the suspension of Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha for unruly behaviour. Fact is BJD did not join the protest. This was pointed out by numerous twitter users and even BJD MP Baijayant Jay Panda refutedthis news.

3. 5 August 2015: The Hindu – Right-wing group attacks FTII This lie is actually from July but since we did not notice it then, it is being reported now. As can be seen from the attached screenshot, The Hindu hadUntitled reported that “Right Wing groups” had attacked FTII. This is apparent from the google search result and the byline which appears with the post. But when one actually went through the post, one could see that it clearly mentioned “unidentified vandals”. The only mention of a “right wing group” was of some group called “Patit Pavan Sanghatana”, which as the report itself says, had only rallied behind Mr. Chauhan  and protested against FTII. Did The Hindu make the inference that this group itself were the vandals? If so, why did they later change their headline to: “FTII seeks police protection”. It seems The Hindu was caught on the wrong foot and then hurriedly corrected itself.

4. 9 August 2015: Dainik Bhaskar – Rahul Mahajan was a close friend of Radhe Maa. Rahul Mahajan was one of the few celebrities who openly came out against God-woman Radhe Ma, posting her pictures in “indecent clothing” on Twitter. Yet, Dainik Bhaskar in their report claimed that Rahul was once an “inseparable friend” of Radhe Ma. Rahul took objection to this false claim and clarified on twitter that far from being a friend, he had never even met Radhe Ma. Bhaskar subsequently updated their post.

5. 18 August 2015: Indian Express and ABP News (at least) – Preity Zinta to IPL officials: Some of my players may have been linked to suspicious activity

News reports from a section of media claimed that Zinta had told BCCI officials  that some players from Kings XI Punjab may have indulged in “suspicious activities” linked to throwing matches. The reports also claimed that Zinta had said that she had felt at times that some IPL matches involving her team had followed a pre-decided pattern. Preity in her response on twitter blasted these media houses for the “inaccurate & extremely irresponsible & malicious” story. She clarified that she ahd onlysuggested  random polygraph tests to prevent corruption. She also said A constructive conversation to genuinely make a difference to the game is turned into a destructive article for sensational purpose“. She also said she was very proud of her team  and under no circumstance will she tolerate slander towards her or her team.

6. 25 August 2015: All Media: Sensex records biggest ever fall

Multiple media outlets reported that “Manic Monday” on 25 August the Sensex crashed to its biggest single-day fall ever. The Sensex fell by 1624 points, nearly 6%. But this was not the biggest single-day fall, neither in absolute terms nor in percentage terms (which is more important). One of the days when Sensex had logged higher intra-day losses was on 31 January 2008 when it lost 2063 points i.e. 10.8%. There other occasions too when it recorded larger falls.

7. 25 August 2015: All Media: Anurag Kashyap gets into a brawl with MMA fighter, gets injured!

Multiple Media houses (some have deleted the story now) reported that Anurag Kashyap got injured in a fight with a MMA fighter. This was absed on Kashyap’s Instagram posts where he posted pics of a bandaged eye. As a caption for one of the pics, he said: “Now they put a plaster, this is what happens when you get into a brawl with a MMA fighter”. MSM took off from here, did not bother doing a cross check into his claims and reported it. As it turns out, Kashyap revealed in a Facebook post that he was actually doing a prosthetics test for his eye and he planted the “MMA fighter” part to trap and expose the media. And the media obliged.

8. 25 August 2015: CNN IBN: OROP not financially feasible nor sustainable – Arun Jaitley

Late on 25 August, IBN group was the only one reporting this news. Instantly everyone 1 assumed that OROP had been shelved since IBN reported that Jaitley, the Finance Minister, himself had said OROP is not feasible. The odd thing here was nobody else was reporting this story, no other media house. Only Firstpost, which is a part of the IBN group, reported this, that too based on IBN’s tweet itself. After a few minutes IBN deleted the said tweet. This was after BJP National Gen Secretary Ram Madhav declared on twitter that the news is false. Further, a few days later, the Defence Minister made a statement saying that only “small gaps are being filled in OROP now”.

9. 27 August 2015: IBN 7: Syed Tarikh Pirzada says Rahul Gandhi and Kejriwal musy break Hindus on caste line to break India

Pirzada is a Pakistani commentator who often makes anti-India remarks. But this remark was not by him. In fact it was a tweet by a parody account but IBN 7 took it to be real and manufactured a news piece on it.

10. 26 August 2015: Hindustan Times – Muslims in Gujarat decreased by 34.52% between 2001 and 2011

In their print edition, Hindutan Times published the following infographic 1which said population of Muslims in Gujarat had come down from 45.92 lacs in 2001 to 30.07 lacs in 2011. This sort of data fits perfectly in the narrative that “Muslims are being persecuted in Gujarat”. But this data is totally false. A look at the official datareleased by the Census department shows that the population of Muslims in Gujarat in 2011 was in fact 58.46 lacs, and the figure of 30.07 lacs reported by Hindustan Times was only of Male Muslims in Gujarat. Unintentional error? which went unchecked at multiple levels? Even when the massive drop of 34.52 % would have raised alarm bells that something somewhere is wrong?

Tuktuki Mandal released? Really?

The following email exchange is self-evident. While Satyanarayana Dosapati is an avid Hindu activist outside of Bharat, Sri Tapan Ghosh is a well-known Hindu leader from West Bengal who has been fighting Islamic terrorism in his state singlehandedly for years with great danger to his own life.  Please share this with your friends and acquaintances and post on your social media.

Thank you,

subject:            Tuktuki Mandal released? What next steps?

There are some questions raised now that Tuktuki is under Police custody, what is there to rally about?   Tuktuki case has made progress because people across the world rallied together for a single daughter.   The  situation in West Bengal is so severely grim, there are issues to rally about in every aspect.    We are facing a very dangerous situation, a question of survival of millions.

On one side per UN report 28,000 girls per year abducted, just few days ago another girl Diya Tamang from Siliguri (given below) was abducted.  Per NDTV report, in Sandeshakali area girls are bought and sold every day.    There is a major cleansing of Hindus across 32,000 villages of West Bengal where there are riots almost every day where Hindus are systematically cleansed (see report with pictures given below).

The  program of planned Ethnic Cleansing using riots, murders, rape and human trafficking will not go away easily.   A leading BJP person whom I spoke just few days ago said, it is not a Pakistan in the making, it is already a Pakistan.   Let us hope the positive effect of rallies in USA will be taken to next step with rallies in UK which has a very strong Hindu community that will not lie down and take this.

Here is what Tappan ji said on Tuktuki release that we should take note of.

Subject: Re: Abducted Tuktuki Rescued by WB Police after 75 days under increa…
To:  :

I am astonished seeing the naivete of the people.  If Tuktuki went on her own, why she would return on her own?

She was under full control of the abductors, fully hand in glove with local police, for long 75 days. What have happened to her – is it difficult to guess? She might have been raped 50 times. More often than not, more than once a day. May be by a number of people. By this time she may be pregnant. She might have been compelled to do abortion.

Are these not enough to break her moral courage?????????? (of a 14 year old minor girl!)

Moreover,  She has been repeatedly told that now no Hindu boy will marry her. She will not only be burden to her parents, but no Hindu boy will marry even her sister if she returns home. If her parents accept her, then her family will be boycotted by the Hindu society.

They also threatened her that they would murder her father and brother, and they will lift her little sister too. Tuktuki knows since her childhood how much powerful the Muslims are! Moreover, her kidnapper Babusona Gazi’s father is clerk of unchallenged dawn of the area named Salim. Also Tuktuki saw the dozens and dozens of fire arms (illegal) in their possession during her detention period. Hence, Tuktuki thinks that the threatenings are real.

I have dealt at least 50 cases like this. In this situation the little immature girl thinks, “My life has already been ruined. Now I should not be responsible for ruining my entire family. Let my parents live in peace. I should not be problem for the future life of my brother, sister and other relatives. FOR ALL THESE, I SHOULD SACRIFICE MY LIFE & FUTURE.”

So, the girl surrenders to the tremendous pressure of the culprits and police.  Don’t you think it is possible?

Hence, what we have to do? Plz remember the fact – the abducted girl doesn’t know me or Hindu Samhati. The hapless girl doesn’t know that her father is now getting help from some powerful people or organisation after her abduction. She knows – Babusona-s and Salim-s are extremely powerful and her parents are very poor illiterate weak.

In this position, the girl obeys all instructions given to her by the abductors and the culprit police. Hence she gives statement in the court of law as per their wish. AND YOU PEOPLE START SHOUTING – OH! I SAID SO BEFORE! THAT THE GIRL HAS ELOPED WITH THE MUSLIM BOY.

SORRY FRIEND, I DIFFER WITH YOU.

YOU PLZ KEEP IN MIND THE BOTTOM LINE – IN THIS MOGRAHAT AREA (BLOCK) HINDUS ARE 40%, MUSLIMS ARE 60%. HAVE YOU EVER LIVED IN SUCH AN AREA??

I fought and fighting dozens & dozens of case like this. I am not upset. I am not frustrated. I am very much accustomed with all these. I fight till last. I will fight till last in this Tuktuki’s case too.

I can only request you to try to know the ground realities and try to understand the difficult condition of the Hindus living in a Muslim majority area. And then deliver your judgement.

Regards to all.

[English Translation]

In fact, I am not amazed by Tuktuki events, because these events often occur in South 24 Paraganas . Media do not cover them. These events come to me each month 6-7  at least. So seeing  these things often, I am tired of fighting.

Because I know what will happen next, like all stories it will be buried later. She will get her place in the correctional home and Babusona Ghazi’s men will bribe the guards to visit Tuktuki. And then when she is 18 years, she would leave to settle with Babusona Ghazi, because her rapist  would present himself as her lover and she would have at the back of her mind that no Hindu boy will marry me. So if  Its where the fate is leading me then let’s go there. Her dad and mom will stand helpless then. And for many people  Tuktuki story will feel like LOST GAME!

Its time to go Mr Prime Minister- Avay Shukla in Hill Post

A Very Powerful Indictment of Congress and Manmohan Singh- a must read for all

http://hillpost.in/2013/08/its-time-to-go-mr-prime-minister/95491/

Dear Prime Minister,

In Hindu tradition and culture the concept of renunciation has always been valued more than the idea of acquisition, and even though you may not accept this for fear of offending your party’s minority vote bank, let me allay your fears by reminding you that this is something preached by the Abrahamic religions also.

I would, therefore, urge you to seriously consider this option in your own interest as well as in the larger interest of this unfortunate country.

The government headed by you has already taken the country back to 1990 in sheer economic terms, and in terms of other social and public values we have reached the nadir of the Dark Ages.

The country had great hopes from you when it voted you to power in 2004, and even higher expectations when it renewed your mandate in 2009 after your sterling display of vision and courage in the nuclear deal. But you only flattered to deceive, and for reasons which are now becoming obvious, relinquished any pretense of leadership or governance.

A big ship needs a strong hand at the rudder-your hand- but you have handed it over to a motley crew of rank opportunists and faceless lascars who can only run it aground.

You were never a politician- a positive for most of the voters – and the two qualities that made us repose our trust in you were your honesty and your acknowledged status as an eminent economist. Today, both lie in tatters- you have betrayed our trust, not substantially but wholly, and therefore you must go.

Time to go Mr Prime Minister

Time to go Mr Prime Minister

Honesty is not divisible, and for those who exercise power there can be no nuances between personal honesty and public honesty. A person who allows others to loot cannot be honest. A Manager who does not raise his voice when illegalities are being committed by his subordinates cannot be honest.

A law maker who protects criminals cannot be honest. And a Prime Minister who does all this simply to remain in power cannot be honest. Your honesty has already cost the country dearly, Mr. Prime Minister, and we cannot sustain this cost any longer.

Your reputation as an economist may still follow you to Harvard or to the LSE after your retirement, but in this country its devaluation is proportionate to the devaluation of the Indian rupee. Where did you lose the plot?

You had everything going for you when you took over in 2004– an economy growing at 8-9%, a Current Account SURPLUS of US$ 10.56 billion, Foreign Exchange reserves in excess of US$ 400 billion, a comfortable net INFLOW of Foreign Direct Investment.

After nine years of your being at the helm, the growth rate is down to between 5% and 6% and falling, the Current Account has gone into a DEFICIT of US$ 20 billion and increasing, Foreign Exchange reserves are down to seven months’ import and depleting, the Fiscal Deficit is going to hit 6%, Foreign Exchange reserves are down to US $ 200 billions (with repayments of US$ 150 due before March 2014), there is a net OUTFLOW of FDI funds to the tune of almost US$ 7-10 billions every month.

The Rupee has reached an exchange rate of 65 to the dollar. Nobody believes Mr. Chidambaram anymore, the RBI Governor can only hyper-ventilate, and you, of course, continue to maintain your sphinx-like silence.

In the meantime inflation continues unabated, jobs are being lost by the millions ( unemployment actually rose by 2% between July 2011 and June 2012), Indian industry prefers to take its money abroad, infrastructure projects languish somewhere between Messers Jaiswal, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and a litre of cooking oil now costs more than two litres of beer! (Can you imagine, Mr. Prime Minister, what a field day Marie Antoinette would have had with this?!).

And this is at the precise time when the rest of the world is coming out of its downturn! No, sir, you and your band of forty thieves have been so busy with your petty politicking, with ensuring the survival of a particular dynasty, securing the financial well being of future generations of your party colleagues and allies, dividing communities and classes, that you have had no time for planning and taking decisions.

The only decisions you HAVE taken boggle the mind. We are already spending 75000 crores every year on our Public Distribution System: every single survey indicates that at least 40% of this, or 30000 crores is siphoned off by politicians, bureaucrats and middle-men. And now your govt. is determined to pour another 50000 crores into this bottomless pit through the Food Security Act! What for?

The BPL( Below Poverty Line) families and the Antyodaya (poorest of the poor) families are already covered under the existing PDS-the FSA will make no difference to them. Govt.’s own figures state that only 27% of our population is now below the poverty line; why then do you want to bring 67% of the population under the FSA, and spend a whopping 50000 crore on people who do not deserve this largesse?

And that too at a time when you have no money for infrastructure development or health and education( in both of which we now lag behind even Sri Lanka and Bangladesh!). Is it worth destroying a country just so your motley crew can win another election? Is this honesty, Mr. Prime Minister?

Had it been only the economic downturn we could perhaps have been more generous. For economics, as we all know, is not only a dismal science, it is also an uncertain one: as they say, even if one were to lay down all economists end to end, we still wouldn’t reach a conclusion!

After all, if Mr. Amartya Sen and Mr. Bhagwati cannot agree on what is good for India we can hardly expect you to have the answer. No sir, the economics is only a part of the mess: let me recount what the others are.

You have systematically sought to destroy every fibre of the democratic fabric of this nation. Constitutional authorities have been attacked publicly by your minions and sought to be humiliated at every turn: remember the diatribes against Vinod Rai and the Central Information Commissioner?

Statutory authorities like the CBI and the office of the Attorney General have been subverted and made to fall in line, your party’s line. Your oath of office demanded that you protect them, but you remained mute, as is your wont.

You have even done the unthinkable: set the Intelligence Bureau against the CBI, ensuring for ever that our premier intelligence agency will never cooperate with our premier criminal investigating agency- every terrorist, insurgent and crooks of all assorted types must be lining up outside Teksons to buy ” thank you” cards for you!

Such is your hubris that you have shown contempt for the orders of the Supreme Court even. The Court’s judgments, instead of being respected and seen as a matter for serious contemplation, are publicly criticised and sought to be by-passed by the collation of a consensus of those affected by the judgments (!) and a brute legislative majority.

So criminals can continue in Parliament. Merit will find no place in the selection of Doctors (at the senior most, Professor, level) even in Super specialty disciplines; minorities will get reservations in government jobs even though the Constitution forbids it.

This lack of respect for the final arbiter of the Constitution and the law is not only breeding a competitive defiance of the Court among other political parties but is also setting the stage for a show down with the judiciary a-la Pakistan and other banana republics.

You behave as if the Opposition is not part of the democratic process, that it is a nuisance that is best ignored; consequently, all communication between the two has now snapped, and the nation is a helpless witness to a Parliament that resembles a rugby locker room in both language and action and is in a permanent state of adjournment.

All parties are to blame for this, of course, but it is your party which laid down the rules of engagement. By refusing to walk the extra mile to accommodate even the legitimate demands of the Opposition, and by sabotaging time and again the Committees of Parliament, you have eviscerated this vital organ of democracy which under you has become as vestigious and irrelevant as your appendix.

Practically no legislative work has been done in the last two years: there are 116 bills pending in both Houses, of which 19 and 21 relate to financial and educational reforms, respectively, two of the areas that need immediate attention.

But your lack of concern is matched only by your shocking sense of priorities: instead of trying to push these bills, you have instead chosen to concentrate your fading energies on two other amendments that can only make politics murkier and more criminalised: removing the disqualification of convicted legislators, and exempting political parties from the RTI Act!

Perhaps the biggest price for your incompetence and your colleagues’ venality is being paid by our defense forces: all three are many years behind in terms of armaments and weaponry ( because another ” honest” Minister, Mr. Antony, will neither effect purchases from abroad nor allow FDI in defense production) and their very capacity to defend the country has been seriously eroded.

Who will defend our borders in such a scenario, Mr. Prime Minister- the lethal barbs of Mr. Manish Tewari, or the boomerangs of Mr. Digvijay Singh or the IEDs of Mr. Mani Shankar Iyer? Even worse, you have demoralized our armed forces by the constant interference of your Ministry and completely taken away their operational and tactical independence.

A succession of retired Army commanders have said so in recent times and the pusillanimous approach of our troops in response to violations of the LOC testify to this. (Of course, these same Army Commanders who have suddenly found their conscience and their voice also need to explain why they didn’t defend their operational independence more vigorously when they were enjoying the perks of their office!).

Under you we have become a whining nation- we whine when Pakistani troops shoot our soldiers, we whine when Chinese troops camp on our territory for weeks on end, we whine when Italian marines shoot our sailors, we whine when the Sri Lanka navy arrests our fishermen, we whine when our ex-President is frisked at an American airport.

Under you a once-proud nation is being kicked around by even a Maldives or a Bhutan. What in God’s name have you done to our image?

In communal terms we have always been a fractured society. But true leaders have in the past tried to bridge these fissures. To you, however, will go the dubious credit of widening and deepening these cracks between communities and castes.

In order to survive, your party has countenanced the retrograde decisions of allies that can only raise the confrontational pitch: earmarking of state budgets for a religious minority, reservations in jobs for the same community (which goes against the express provisions of our Constitution), reservations in promotions (which has been struck down by the courts), setting up of a central Commission to review the (criminal) cases of suspects of one community only.

It is your party which has put communalism at the center of the campaign for next year’s election, not the BJP or Mr. Modi. The former has consciously downplayed the Ram Mandir issue, and Modi had made it clear that development was going to be his plank. But this did not suit you since your party couldn’t possibly debate him on this plank, what with your miserable record of the last five years.

So you deliberately inserted the communal element, as did your allies, by harping only on the 2002 Gujarat riots. To his credit, Mr. Modi has so far not agreed to stoop so low, and I do not think your strategy will work.

But you have in the process vitiated the atmosphere for a long time to come, reopened old wounds that were beginning to heal, and provided a legitimate space for hot heads on both sides of the divide.

How much damage to the country is one Parliamentary seat worth, Mr. Prime Minister? How many more Partitions will you recreate to satisfy your party’s lust for power?

Your opportunistic creation of Telangana has sown the seeds of disputes and blood-letting in all parts of the country that will sorely test the federal integrity of our country for many years to come. There are twenty one more statehood specters waiting in the wings and by the time they are exorcised we may have ceased to exist as one nation.

Do I need to refer to the endemic corruption that your government has been indulging in these last ten years? And to your pathetic attempts to distance yourself from them, even though it is gradually becoming clearer with each passing day that you were aware of what was happening and did nothing to stop it? Why?

The quality of honesty, like that of mercy, cannot be strained: one cannot be honest and yet knowingly allow dishonesty on one’s watch.

Even worse, your increasing brazenness in the face of evidence against you boggles the mind: the Minister who doctored the Coalgate report has been made Special Envoy to Japan, a Minister whose nephew sold posts in The Railways for crores has not even been named in the charge sheet, the Minister on whose watch files relating to YOUR period of the coal scam have gone missing continues to bestride Shastri Bhavan like a colossus.

Who is this Faustian devil you have sold your soul to, Mr. Prime Minister?

Your deafening silence on all these matters-you have spoken in both houses of Parliament only fifty times in ten years-defies logic and conventional wisdom. And that leads me to speculate whether we are underestimating you.

Is there, after all, a method in your madness? Could it be that you are reconciled to losing the next elections and are therefore deliberately implementing a scorched earth policy?

That you will leave behind as a legacy for the next government an India that is bankrupt, ungovernable, riven by caste and communal conflicts, all its institutions destroyed?

An India that will soon be on its knees, begging for your party- the lone horseman riding in from the sunset, in Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s words, don’t forget-to take over the reins again, and save the country from perdition? But I forget, you never speak- so we’ll never know till the horseman is upon us.

Mr. Prime Minister, your party has stripped this country like a cloud of locusts. You have sown every type of poisonous seed known to your ilk and we shall be reaping the bitter harvest for many years hence. You have engendered an atmosphere of uncertainty, venality, indecision, communalism, opportunism, criminalisation and defiance of constitutional and statutory institutions which cannot be allowed to continue, for that way lies certain disaster.

Elections are nine months’ hence but we cannot allow this conception to come to full term: the seed sown by you can only destroy this country and must be aborted. The time has come for you to go, Mr. Prime Minister, and to go immediately.

Call for elections now, end the uncertainty, let us get on with our lives, give this country a chance to redeem itself. Do one last service to this nation, sir- stand not upon the order of your going, but go!

With best wishes,

A Letter Written Before 2009 Elections is Equally Relevant Today

Though this letter was written before 2009 elections, it is equally relevant for state elections and 2014 national election. It applies equally to all political parties except the BJP.  If we ever want to get rid of Congress, we must start circulating contents of such articles to a wider audience and start a debate to expose pseudo-secularism.

I am not for giving pilgrimage subsidies to Hindus to offset pilgrimage subsidies to Muslims and Christians. I believe, no one should get any help for religious undertakings  from the Government. A truly secular government should not be in the business of  supporting or enticing followers of a particular religion. I wish the governments would use a fraction of such largess to improve the infrastructure and cleanliness at all major religious places in Bharat, irrespective of the faith they represent.

An Open Letter to Chiranjeevi , Praja Rajyam Party

Dear Dr Chiranjivi,

Sub: Your promises to the 71st Conference of the Bible Mission of Andhra Pradesh near Guntur in January 2009 Not a few but many intelligent and true citizens of secular India are stunned by what you promised to the Christians assembled there.

First let me refer to what your party office is displaying. One of the photos is of Mother Teresa. I wonder how much you know by your own effort, through published literature and a BBC TV show (“Hell’s Angel” is a 1994 BBC television documentary about Mother Theresa by Christopher Hitchens ) on Mother Teresa or whether you are accepting the propaganda. I request you especially since you aspire to be Chief Minister of the state and leader of our people, to read the book on Mother Teresa by Arup Chatterjee, “The Final Verdict” available on

http://www.meteorbo oks.com/introduc tion.html

.

2 Mother Teresa has not only accepted money from criminals, narcotics dealers, smugglers but even wrote to the Governor of a State in the USA to show leniency to a person who was convicted for serious crimes. Her plea was that he donated money to her cause. Suppose the fake stamp printer, Telgi of Rs.35000 cr scam donates money to your Party, would you first accept it and second, tell the public that he is a good man as he donated for a good cause and so, he should be treated leniently ? I urge upon you to remove that photo and to convince yourself, please read the book and also see the BBC TV show which exposed her frauds.

3 You have stated that you attended the conference of the Bible Mission because of your faith in Jesus Christ. This is of course the common naivety of every Hindu because when we accept thousands of people as gods and goddesses and divine, one more could also be accepted, as god’s son, born immaculately to a virgin, Mary. Have you ever asked a Christian or Muslim whether he would in a reciprocal manner, say he has faith in Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva or Sri Rama? Every Hindu can sincerely and passionately say Easwar Allah tere naam.

Have you ever asked a Muslim to say that? I have asked Muslims who were my interlocutors in several public meetings to tell this, just as I said and whether they would repeat it. None of them repeated. I would not question your faith in Christ but I request you to introspect within yourself whether your faith is not misplaced as we do not have a reciprocal affirmation from non-Hindus; that is, Christians and Muslims.

5 You promised to the conference of Christians the continuation of and extension and intensification of state-funding for Christians’ pilgrimage to Jerusalem. We are a ‘secular’ state. There is not a single ‘secular’ state in the world which uses the tax monies of people to fund or subsidise religious pilgrimage of its citizens. Not a single one of the more than 40 Muslim countries in the world funds or subsidises the pilgrimages of its Muslim citizens to Mecca. It is only the ‘secular’ and peculiar state of India that subsidises Muslims’ pilgrimage to Mecca at Rs.35000 per person, increasing annually, costing an amount of over Rs 400 cr in 2008 and increasing every year. It may be of interest to you to know that the Bill to this effect was moved by the so called “secularist” and “socialist” great man, Jawaharlal Nehru himself.

6 As nowhere else in this country or anywhere in the world, the Christian Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy of this state has started funding Christians’ pilgrimage to Jerusalem from the coffers of the ‘secular’ state of Andhra Pradesh. This is subversion of our Constitution. Not a single Hindu Minister in his Cabinet had the honor, much less courage to demand that like Muslims and Christians, Hindus forming 85% of the state’s population and contributing 95% of the tax revenues to the government be also subsidised for their pilgrimages to Manasarover,Amaranth, Kasi, Prayaga, Mathura, Ayodhya, Vashno Devi, Simhachalam, Tirupati, Sabarimalai etc. Not a single MLA or MLC of AP has condemned this anti-secular, anti-Hindu measure of the GOAP.

Surprisingly, you have promised to the Christians that your party would continue this type of subsidies for religious pilgrimages of Christians. It did not occur to you to say that it is wrong for a ‘secular’ state to do so. Not even that; you did not invoke the principle that a ‘secular’ state should treat all religions alike; you do not say that Hindus pilgrimages would also be subsidised. This makes us to suspect that you and your party, like all the so-called ‘secular’ parties, are engaged in appeasement of minorities in the fond hope of getting their votes. This is reprehensible for a leader and a party which is espousing CHANGE, as the war slogan of the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP).

You have also promised to these Christians that the reservations meant for Hindu SCs would be extended to the dalits in Christianity. I am sure you are not ignorant about the claims of Christianity that in it, there is no caste and no untouchability and that all are equal according to the Christian creed. It is by propagandizing this tenet of Christianity that missionaries and evangelists and churches are luring SC Hindus to convert to Christianity. Christianity is hundreds of years old in this country; yet it is practising discrimination against the Hindu SCs who are converted to Christianity. Are you aware that out of over 300 Bishops just only one or two are from the so-called dalit Christians whereas they constitute more than 80% of Christians in India? It is the Brahmin, Reddy, Kamma and such upper caste converts to Christianity that are Bishops. Church organizations, Christian-managed educational and medical institutions do not provide reservations for dalit Christians. Why should secular governments do so?

9 You must be aware that in South Africa, the white European-descent Christian rulers practised untouchability against the black Africans converted to Christianity until the year 1994. White European Christians exterminated 40 million indigenous people in Americas. White Christians traded in slaves and held slaves. The American civil war was fought on the issue of abolition of slavery. Abolition of slavery was proclaimed over 150 years ago, untouchability and segregation against the black Afro- Americans were practiced by the white Christians in the USA till the 1960s. Even today, Afro-American Blacks have their churches separate from the churches of the white European origin Christians.

10 Christianity is thus a great fraud in saying that there is no untouchability or discrimination against low-class, low-caste converts like Hindu SCs or black Africans or Afro-Americans. To such fraudster Christianity, you are promising that reservations meant for Hindu SCs would be extended to converts. It would mean encouragement of Hindu SCs and others to convert to Christianity! Do you please realize this? Is it not an anti-Hindu position?

11 90% of the government servants who have got their jobs in reservation quota by declaring themselves as Hindu SCs are in fact practising Christians-. After retirement Stanley Babu, of South Central Railways, Sri Danam retired IAS officer etc., are examples. One William, an SC Christian is Chairman of the AP State SC/ST Finance Corporation. What do Hindus owe to them, to such fraudster Christianity in Andhra Pradesh that you are promising to help? Should not 85% of voters who are Hindus deem your promise as an anti-Hindu stand? Do you know that Dr B R Ambedkar, whose photo you are exhibiting along with Mother Teresa, told his people not to convert to Christianity as the moment they do so, they cease to be Indians; they get denationlised ? Dr B R Ambedkar also told SCs that they should not convert to Islam either as the brotherhood in that religion is confined to Muslims and the rest are all kafirs, fit to converted or killed. Mahatma Gandhi, whom hundreds of millions of Indians revere, answering a pointed question by missionaries before Independence said, that ‘if I had the power I would, after India gained Independence , send out all the missionaries from the country. He held conversion as the greatest violence, involving utmost fraud. This is what Christian missionaries and Christian organisations in Andhra Pradesh are engaged in and to them you are promising subsidised pilgrimage and extension of reservations for Hindu dalits converted to Christianity. This is a blatant, in fact, a competitive exercise to appease minorities.

12 I appeal to you not to compete with fraudsters, vote gatherers and traitors to Hinduism in making promises to Christians and Muslims in the hope of getting their votes. Have you promised to Hindus what you promise to Christians (and Muslims)? Do you know that the so called minority colleges sell 70% of their seats to Hindus and they don’t give them all to minority students?

13 Finally, I request you to read the enclosed articles and booklets which bear upon the great assault that Hindus and India are being subjected to by the evil quartet of Marxists, Muslims, Missionaries and Macaulayans (i.e., English medium educated persons, who are only in colour and blood Indian, but in culture, belief, tastes, view of India,un-Indian, western, now-a-days, American), resident non-Indians (RNIs) all.

14 You are constantly talking of Change I suggest to you that the Change should be to move away from corruption, anti-Hinduism, diversion of Hindus’ funds and tax monies by a ‘secular’ state to Muslims and to Christians. This nation and our people owe nothing to Muslims or Christians. The former had been the ruthless anti-Hindu rulers in several parts of the country for several centuries, looting and humiliating Hindus. The latter had been collaborators with the British rule, bringing into India unIndian, anti-Hindu faiths and beliefs and religious intolerance. Your party and you which are repeatedly using the phrase change should discard the colonized mindset and cultivate and promote Indian mindset of Sanatana Dharma, that is Hindu and Bharat.

LETTER TO NEWS INDIA TIMES, NEW YORK                          May 18, 2013

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Indian American Intellectual Forum and its entire national and international constituency I want to convey that we are appalled upon using purposely a divisive and mischievous title “Dalit Leader Named Chief Minister of Karnataka” (News India Times, dated May 16th) by your reporter. We are convinced that this title is politically motivated, mean, mendacious, malicious and a diabolical attempt designed to create a wedge in Hindu society and fragment it to the advantage of the establishment.

If your reporter was interested in igniting a new class warfare based on societal divisions that previously existed in the Indian and Hindu society in all fairness he should not have ignored the appointment and placement of the selective minority individuals by Mrs. Sonia Gandhi in highly sensitive positions in the government in office. Trampling upon the sentiments of the majority of Indians she has quietly handed over most crucial and extremely important portfolios to her pet individuals from Muslims and Christians communities. Here are some examples.

Salman Khurshid, Foreign Minister of India; E. Ahmad, India’s Minister for External Affairs; Syed Akbarddin, the spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs; Chief of Intelligence Bureau, Syed Asif Ibrahim; Chief Justice of India, Altmas Kabir; Attorney General of India, Goolam E. Vahanvati; Vice President of India Mohammed Hameed Ansari; Health Minister Gulam Nabi Azad;, Union Minister Farooq Abdullah, K. Rahman Khan, Sonia Gandhi’s political Advisor Ahmad Patel all are Muslims. Former Chief Election Commissioner of India, S.Y. Qureshi was also a Muslim.

Isn’t it ironic that your reporter while reporting about these pet individuals of Sonia Gandhi  never identified them as Muslims, Sunnis, Shiias or Christians. Can it be an inadvertent error?

Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul Gandhi, Defense Minister A.K. Anthony, Air Chief Marshall Norman Anil Kumar Browne all are Christians. However, strangely enough their identification is never made by referring to their religion or Jati. Could it also be a mistake?

The Dalits, as is universally acknowledged, are an integral part of the Hindu Samaj. Quietly and constructively Hindu society has been at work for bringing about social reformation so that  justice and equality become  a part of every body  including those who for one or the other reason have thus far been denied such rights.  Included in the scheme of this massive transformation are those who were classified as unprivileged. We are determined to make equality,  justice,  national unity and patriotism four central pillars of Indian’s modern civilization. Alas! your reporter failed to recognize these characteristics in the New Indian Society. Clearly your reporter’s intention smacks of mala-fide intention. We have not seen any news report loudly proclaiming that Sonia and Rahul are Catholic Christians, and that Salman Khurshid, Altmas Kabir and all others mentioned above are Muslims.

A doubt has crept in our minds that some anti-Hindu Communists, communalists and far left guys entrenched in top most positions in Media are deliberately sowing the seeds of disintegration and conflict in Hindu Samaj. They twist and craft their items in such a way as to serve their sinister and evil designs.

We firmly believe that your reporter has done a great disservice to his profession and more importantly to Hindu Samaj. It is incomprehensible as to what on earth prompted him to damage Hindu Society. Instead of drafting and highlighting his news item negatively the reporter could have done a great service to his profession by staying on facts, projecting positivity and by helping the ongoing efforts by millions of Hindu volunteers towards unification and revitalization of the entire Hindu Society.

Expose! Harsh Mander’s CES received Rs 12.33 crore foreign/Church fund in two years

By Japan K Pathak

Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 17 April 2013

With official documents in hand, in this series I am trying to narrate the details of crorepati non-government organizations functioning in Gujarat – author

The last article was about details of foreign funding to Shabnam Hashmi’s NGO ANHAD. In that article we mentioned that one of the founders of ANHAD was Mr. Harsh Mander, a former IAS officer and Action Aid India man.

According to Wikipedia page, Harsh Mander was a signatory to the campaign to save Afzal Guru, a terrorist convicted and later hanged for the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. Mander also supports the demand for removal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 from Kashmir and North-eastern states. Harsh is convener of the drafting committee for the Communal Violence (Prevention) bill. Harsh Mander applied for mercy to Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab courting a huge controversy.

Wikipedia page further tells that Harsh became member of National Advisory Council of the UPA government in 2010 and special commissioner to the Supreme Court. He was removed from the NAC in 2012. He worked formerly in the Indian Administrative Service in the predominantly tribal states Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh for almost two decades.

Harsh Mander heads NGO called “Aman Biradari”. He is founder member of Shabnam Hashmi led organization ANHAD.

But this article is about Mr. Mander’s another organization – ‘Centre for Equity Studies’(CES). This is a foreign funded (with partial funding from Christian organizations and church) NGO, headquartered in Delhi. We have obtained two-year data of foreign funding to Mander’s Centre for Equity Studies(CES).

In year 2011-12, CES received Rs 7,55,17,631.25 foreign funding. As per CES’s submission before government’s concerned department, justice for victim in states including Gujarat was one of the cause for which foreign fund was received and utilized. Research and homes for street children were other works for which money was received and spent in Gujarat area.

As Gujarat is involved somewhere, we are covering Harsh’s Delhi headquartered CES in our series.

Harsh Mander_NGO_2011-12-Funding-1

Harsh Mander_NGO_2011-12-Funding-2.png

Harsh Mander_NGO_2011-12-Funding-3

In 2011, Mr. Mander’s NGO received highest amount of aid from Netherlands based ‘Partnership Foundation’ for “welfare of children”. From online resources we learn that Partnership Foundation was set up by Ferd van Koolwijk, a Dutch businessman, who initiated the Rainbow Home Program in February 2002 for school children at Sister Cyril’s Loreto Day School in Kolkata. Sister Cyril is from Ireland based Christian religious organization – Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Loreto). Harsh Mander is the main partner of Partnership Foundation in New Delhi. Rainbow Home program is for homeless girls upto age of 18. Partnership Foundation has donated crores and crores of rupees to Mr. Mander’s NGO apparently to run Rainbow homes.

Then CES has received nearly Rs 90 lakh are as donation from Denmark based Christian organization DAN Church AID.

Rs 10 lakh received from America based Association for India’s Development(AID). This organization called AID also supports Medha Patkar in her Narmada movement and anti-Delhi Mumbai corridor movement. AID supported the movement to free Binayak Sen who was allegedly connected to Naxals and therefore jailed, but released later. Arvind Kejriwal is AID Saathi. What is AID Saathi? Well, AID recognizes certain activists in India with “Saathi” awards and support them in a manner that allows them freedom to operate without the constraints of a specific time-bound project. The program creates a mutually enriching relationship between AID and the Saathi and entails not only support in the form of a stipend, but also non-monetary involvement and strategic support from AID volunteers.

Germany’s BODO Huetten Foundation which works with children in education sector is another donor. Action Aid India is ofcourse at Mr. Mander’s help. International Development Research Centre – another donor to CES is headquartered in Canada. Members of IDRC’s Board of Governors are appointed by the Government of Canada.

One interesting source of donation is the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) – the bank that was in news for alleged dubious money transfers.

America based Indian Muslim Relief & Charities is another donor of Mander’s NGO. The same Muslim organization helped Shabnam Hashmi’s ANHAD also.

Now let’s move on to year 2010-11 records. Mr. Mander’s NGO CES received foreign funding of Rs 47817508.11 in this year.

Harsh Mander_NGO_2010-11-Funding-1Harsh Mander_NGO_2010-11-Funding-2

Partnership Foundation is of course the top donor. IDRC also there. Then there’s an organization called Sangat which is based in Bradford, UK. American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin is another donor of CES this year with less than Rs 10 lakh donation.

Then there’s again a Church. One NGO ‘ICCI and Kerkin Actie’ has donated around Rs 70 lakh in a year to Mr. Mander’s NGO for research, seminars and other activities. Kerkin Actie (in Dutch) means Church in Action.

Concluding – in two years Mr. Harsh Mander’s one NGO CES received Rs 123335139.36 fund from abroad. We don’t have any detail about locally sourced funds of CES.

Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 16 April 2013

With official documents in hand, in this series I am trying to narrate the details of crorepati non-government organizations functioning in Gujarat – author

When I read status updates on left-winger NGO operator Shabnam Hashmi’s foreign tours, when I look at her anti-Modi ad anti-Right campaigns on Facebook, when I learn that she travels in planes, and manage to have a house in Amdavad, when I learn she camped in Gujarat before the assembly elections for weeks and weeks, the questions arise in my mind: how one manage to spend so much without doing job or business like normal people!

But after getting hold of the official documents on foreign funded organizations in India, I have been able to find some answers.

Shabnam Hashmi runs ANHAD (Act Now for Harmony and Democracy) with registered address as 23, Canning Lane (Pandir Ravi Shankar Shukl Lane) in New Delhi.

Her association is described as Cultural, education and social. Yes, the word ‘political’ is not part of the description.

Hashmi’s NGO received Rs. 1,66,10,753.60 foreign fund in year 2011-12 for “strengthening communal harmony and democracy.”

Now let’s do dissection of the foreign fund, Shabnam Hashmi received during that year.

ANHAD_2011-12 FundingNGO, Christian Aid, IMRC, CASA,

The highest foreign fund was donated by Britain based organization Christian Aid. ANHAD has received around Rs one crore fund in a year from this organization.

Among the other organizations that made donations to Ms. Hashmi’s ANHAD are IMRC (Indian Muslim Relief and Charities) headquartered in Palo Alto California and Church Auxiliary for Social Action(CASA).

Now let’s move on to the figures of year 2010-11.

ANHAD_2010-11 Funding

ANHAD received foreign donation of Rs 1,65,25,433. Christian Aid was again the main donor Google India, with donation in this year worth Rs 84 lakh around.

In both 2011 and 2010 OXFAM was also one of the major donors of ANHAD.

Interestingly Action-Aid India is also one of the major donors of ANHAD. We accessed the funding details of Action-Aid Associations and found that in same year Action Aid was donated Rs 46053800.00 by a single donor – Google India Private Limited for “welfare of other backward class.”

ANHAD was established in March 2003, as a response to 2002 Gujarat riots by Shabnam Hashmi, Marxian historian Prof. K N Panikkar and social activist Harsh Mander. As per its Wiki page, ANHAD plays a major role in Gujarat to fight against human right violations,as well as in the Kashmir Valley.ANHAD is registered as a trust and has six trustees. They are Shabnam Hashmi, K N Panikkar, Harsh Mander, Shubha Mudgal, Kamla Bhasin, Saeed Akhtar Mirza.

Bangladesh: Wave of violent attacks against Hindu minority – Press release by Amnesty International

Amnesty International

Press releases
6 March 2013

Bangladesh: Wave of violent attacks against Hindu minority

A wave of violent attacks against Bangladesh’s minority Hindu community
shows the urgent need for authorities to provide them with better
protection, Amnesty International said.

Over the past week, individuals taking part in strikes called for by
Islamic parties have vandalised more than 40 Hindu temples across
Bangladesh.

Scores of shops and houses belonging to the Hindu community have also been
burned down, leaving hundreds of people homeless.

The attacks come in the context of large scale violent protests that have
been raging across Bangladesh for weeks over the country’s ongoing war
crimes tribunal, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

“The Hindu community in Bangladesh is at extreme risk, in particular at
such a tense time in the country. It is shocking that they appear to be
targeted simply for their religion. The authorities must ensure that they
receive the protection they need,” said Abbas Faiz, Amnesty International’s
Bangladesh Researcher.

“All political parties in Bangladesh should condemn strongly any violence
against the Hindu community, and to instruct all their members and
supporters not to take part in such attacks.”

Survivors told Amnesty International that the attackers were taking part in
rallies organised by the opposition Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and
its student group Chhatra Shibir.

JI has publicly denied any involvement in violence against the Hindu
community.

Attacks have happened across Bangladesh, but mostly in remote areas in the
country. The latest attack took place today in Daudkandi village,
south-eastern Comilla district, where a Hindu temple was vandalised and
burned down.

One survivor told Amnesty International that on 28 February, his family’s
village of Rajganj Bazar in the south-eastern Noakhali district was set on
fire by people taking part in a JI-organised strike.

“They moved into our properties and set fire to 30 of our houses.
Seventy-six families were living in these houses. They also set fire to our
temples – all are now vanished,” the survivor said, who asked to remain
anonymous out of concerns for his safety.

He said the authorities have provided temporary accommodation to the
affected families, who had lost almost all their belongings to theft or
destruction in the violence.

Another survivor said that on 2 March, a group of about 100 young men
holding banners in support of JI looted and damaged four shops in Satkania
near Chittagong and vandalised a Hindu temple in the village.

Bangladesh’s Hindu minority makes up only eight per cent of the population,
and has historically been at risk of violence from the Muslim population –
including during the independence war in 1971, and after elections in 2001.

“Given the obvious risks the Hindu minority faces in Bangladesh, these
attacks were sadly predictable. We urge the authorities to take note of the
violence and act to prevent further attacks,” said Faiz.

Tensions have been running high in Bangladesh in recent weeks as JI and its
student wing have called strikes and mass protests against the ICT, which
has found some of its senior members guilty for crimes committed during the
1971 war.

Protesters have also been involved in violent clashes with police, who have
used tear gas, rubber bullets or live ammunition against them. At least 60
people have been killed, mostly by police fire, but among the dead are also
several policemen.

“While there are credible reports that police firing may have followed
violent attacks against them by protesters, police use of excessive force
cannot be discounted”, Faiz said.

Major Protest Planned at Wharton

There is a major protest being planned with speakers across US Cross sections on Free Speech at the same time the event being held on the Wharton campus close to Penn Museum where this event is to take place

We are group of Indian American activists who are concerned with the recent developments in relation to Wharton India Economic Forum and their disinvitation of Narendra Modi.   Among us there is NIAC ( http://niac.co ) that recently took high ranking US congress members such Peter Roskam to India to meet leaders such as Modi,  our group worked with Indian teams and won recent battle on Electronic Voting Machines to provide paper receipt ( http://SaveIndianDemocracy.org ) by bringing in international experts from Germany, Denmark and US,  we initiated a major conference on India Corruption with representatives from UN, Eurodad , Tax Justice Network and elite in India, Dr. Swamy, Kejriwal, Baba Ramadev, Supreme Court Justices (retd) etc  ( http://SaveIndiaFromCorruption.org ).  Our group includes Wharton alumni, academicians from US.

We are not here to go over the merits of Modi invitation or who is responsible for 2002 riots which is an ongoing debate, but the manner in which Wharton decided to invite a Chief Minister of 50 million people who was elected four times to give key note speech and then dis-invite him based on some petition or even possible pressure from India’s groups.  America and its institutions pride itself on free speech, freedom of expression and open to voices of dissent.  What kind of example Wharton is setting for its students who are going to be future leaders and entrepreneurs in the nation?  This is insult to position of democratically elected Chief Minister of India and to 50 million people from his state who voted him four times to power.  The unfortunate irony of all this is even the highest ranking Muslims in India praise Modi’s inclusive growth.  Business leaders from all over the world make a beeline to invest in Gujarat state and Wharton being a business school, what kind of relations it is building with it?  At a time when India is reeling with massive corruption scandals and India’s corruption ranking is among the lowest in Transparency International rankings, Mr. Modi has shown to the world what India is capable of.  Would he not be the best person to speak to Wharton business students and learn from him?

Here is Wall Street Journal poll where out of 5875 polled,  5394 said Wharton made a wrong decision.
