We’re in an acrimonious period of partisan tribalism and have been for some time. Both parties are guilty of overwrought denunciations of their political opponents. My criticisms are often aimed at Democrats; on the anniversary of Jan. 6, I’m addressing squarely those Republicans who for a year have excused the actions of the rioters who stormed the Capitol, disrupted Congress as it received the Electoral College’s results, and violently attempted to overturn the election.

These apologists say those who stormed the Capitol were innocent patriots, tourists visiting the seat of the national government to petition their elected representatives peacefully. We’re told that these harmless, ordinary Americans are being persecuted as political prisoners. Let’s stipulate that while the thousands who went to the Capitol a year ago were wrong to insist the election was stolen, most weren’t violent as they exercised their First Amendment rights to gather peacefully on the Mall—just as I had seen liberals gather to protest both inaugurations of President George W. Bush.

But last year there were several thousand protesters willing to use force to disrupt Congress in its constitutional duty to receive and certify the electoral vote. Some went to Washington with that purpose in mind. Others were swept up in the moment’s savagery, led astray by stronger wills with dangerous motives. The leaders of this group were intent on committing violence, some having planned to do so for weeks. Many wore tactical gear. Some came armed with chemical agents, flagpoles, batons and sticks.

They broke through barricades and assaulted approximately 140 police officers, in some cases with an officer’s own shield or gear. They smashed doors and windows, illegally entered the Capitol, ransacked offices and searched for leaders of Congress, and made dire threats about what would happen if they found them. More than 725 people have been charged so far, and law enforcement is searching for hundreds more suspects who appear on video or social media, some recorded attacking police officers. At least 163 people have pleaded guilty, and 71 have been sentenced. Only one defendant’s charges have been dismissed. Many of the most serious trials have yet to be held, as lawyers prepare defenses or negotiate plea deals.

So, on this anniversary, here’s a simple thought experiment: What if the other side had done it? What if in early January 2017, Democrats similarly attired and armed had stormed the Capitol and attempted to keep Congress from receiving the Electoral College results for the 2016 presidential election? What if Democrats claimed that Donald Trump’s razor-thin victories in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin resulted from extensive voter fraud and should be rejected, despite having failed to establish in a single court that extensive fraud had actually occurred? What if some of these Democrats breached the Capitol defenses and threatened violence against the Republican speaker, Paul Ryan, and Republican Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell? What if they insisted that in his role as Senate president then-Vice President Joe Biden had sole authority to seat Hillary Clinton’s electors from any contested states and thereby hand her the presidency?

If this happened, would some of my fellow Republicans have accepted it as merely a protest? Would they have called patriots those charged with violent acts against our country, its laws and Constitution? Would they have accepted such extralegal means to change the outcome of a presidential election?

No they would not. I’m certain of that. If Democrats had done what some Trump supporters did on that violent Jan. 6, Republicans would have criticized them mercilessly and been right to do so. Republicans would have torched any high official who encouraged violence or stood mute while it was waged and been right to do so. Republicans would have demanded an investigation to find who was responsible for the violence and been right to do so.

To move beyond Jan. 6, 2021, we must put country ahead of party. For Democrats, that means resisting their leadership’s petty habit of aggravating partisan fault lines by indiscriminately condemning all who came to Washington that day.

We Republicans have a heavier burden. I’ve been a Republican my entire life, and believe in what the Republican Party, at its best, has represented for decades. There can be no soft-pedaling what happened and no absolution for those who planned, encouraged and aided the attempt to overthrow our democracy. Love of country demands nothing less. That’s true patriotism.

Making America Great Again, One Conviction at a Time

August 21, 2018, will go down in the history of the USA as the beginning of the slow but sure end of Donald Trump. A day when his former campaign manager Pual Manafort was convicted on eight counts (five counts of tax fraud, two counts of bank fraud and one count of failure to disclose a foreign bank account,) which together carry a long prison sentence.  As if that was not enough of a bad news for Mr. Trump, his personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to tax evasion, bank fraud and campaign finance violations. In doing so, he revealed that he had made hush payments to a porn star and a former Playboy Playmate on instructions of Donald Trump, a clear violation of campaign laws. Special Counsel Robert Mueller III who has worked diligently and silently in spite of repeated and willful insults and provocation by Donald Trump deserves the gratitude of American people. Fact that he has secured five guilty pleas, 32 indicted individuals, 187 charges revealing evidence of Russia’s 2016 attack on our democracy, puts to rest Mr. Trump’s constant refrain of a witch hunt.

From today, the army of liars and crooks like Rudy Guliani, Chris Christie, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, the Fox News, and Donald Trump himself will go to town spinning this bad news, explaining how this doesn’t affect Trump. Spineless leaders like Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan will utter the same nonsense as before and in essence declare their full support to “our” President.  40% of the voters, mostly Christian rights, Evangelists, gun-toting rednecks and White supremacist racists will rile against the justice system since they have been on ‘Trump can do no wrong’ dope for too long. Even many Hindu NRIs will still support him, mainly because, he is anti-Muslim.

Yet the fact remains that Mr. Trump is on a downward slide from where there is no turning back. I have lived through Nixon and Watergate times and Nixon who had won the second term and seemed invincible was fell by his own hubris. Mark my words- Trump’s end will be the same, though he will not leave without being dragged kicking and screaming.  America is in for a rough patch ahead but at least, the constitution is still intact and the judiciary is independent.   Stay tuned.

मधर्स डे- दुसरो को नीचा दिखाने से आप महान नहीं बन सकते।

A post circulating in Bharat about Mother’s Day and my response.  – Gaurang Vaishnav

Ujjal Dosanjh: Dear Donald Trump, you are an illegitimate President-elect;

Dear Donald Trump, you are an illegitimate President-elect; you will be a less than legitimate President

By Ujal Dosanjh

(Dosanjh is former Premier of British Columbia, and former Canadian Minister of Health.)

Dear Donald, you and your surrogates have been noxiously complaining that the US Democrats are raising the bogey of Russian hacking into the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to delegitimise your electoral victory and undermine your presidency. I am a citizen of the increasingly smaller world: A Canadian citizen; and by heritage an Indian of India. I am baffled how one undermines something already illegitimate. I thought I should let you know well before your swearing in that as far as many Americans and people across the world are concerned your Presidency is void ab initio. You are an illegitimate President-Elect; and you will be an illegitimate President. Stop complaining about it. Just grin and bear it.

And you may ask why?

Where do you want me to start?

For beginners, as one who had sought to undermine the Presidency of a duly elected Barack Obama by leading the most disgusting chorus of the Birther Lie against the first black president in the history of the USA, you don’t deserve to be the President, and that too as the standard bearer of the party of the slayer and abolisher of slavery, Abraham Lincoln.

You campaigned on “draining the swamp” of the rich and powerful in Washington. That appears to have been another one of your grotesque lies because your proposed cabinet is full of billionaires and multimillionaires quite at home, and used to swimming, in the swamp of which they are an integral part.

Your electoral college victory was founded upon a campaign of hate and racism against Muslims and Mexicans that appealed to the latent racism of quite a significant section of white Americans still undoubtedly harbouring racism, fear of the other and economic anxieties afflicting them leading them to buy your snake oil of how everything will be fine when you ban all Muslims from entering the country, set up a mandatory registry for American Muslims, instantly deport 11 million Mexicans from the USA back into Mexico and build a wall on the border with Mexico. You lied to the American people that you will make Mexico pay for the wall which you are now asking Americans to pay for. And we are happy that it will be less than a wall; but still another lie.

To make matters worse you have told scores of other monstrous, consequential and inconsequential lies in your lifetime and in the campaign. So much so that it compelled James Warren writing in Vanity Fair to label you “the least honest politician alive”. And even after getting elected you haven’t stopped lengthening the already too long a screed of lies.
I confess Hillary Clinton was not the greatest opponent you could have faced. She had excessive baggage from years of being in the public and political domains: the history the Clinton Foundation, her own emails from her time as Secretary of State and much more. According to the report of the US intelligence, in came the Russians with the clear intent to sow distrust in the US election process, hurt the Clinton candidacy and help yours, their preferred candidate. The Russians hacked the DNC and other Clinton related emails and conspired with the Wikileaks to strategically release such materials during the campaign. The drip-drip of the Russian hacked and Wikileaks released material effectively damaged Clinton’s chances of beating you; Russia put its thumb on the scale to help you, their favourite candidate; you became Russia’s “Manchurian” candidate. Russia didn’t interfere with the voting machines or the tallying of the votes. But it certainly did interfere with and influence the election in your favour. With Russia’s clear and covert help, you defeated Clinton.

There are as yet unsubstantiated claims that the Russians possess a dossier of compromising personal and other information on you with which, if true, you could be subject to blackmail endangering the national security of the United States of America. The intelligence chiefs felt the information, though unproven, was germane enough to their duty to protect USA and its government that they briefed President Obama and you on it. The briefing material was leaked but according to the intelligence chiefs not by them or their organisations. You had a hissy fit during what the Guardian described as a train wreck of a press conference, and compared your intelligence chiefs to the Nazis. Such irresponsible conduct is more proof that you aren’t fit to be the President of the most powerful country on earth.

Mind you, Russia isn’t unique in the world in trying to subvert other nation’s politics and governments. American governments have been no international angels. They have encouraged countless coups and revolts and interfered in elections all over the world. The government s your country helped come to power in other countries were equally illegitimate, be it the Shah of Iran, Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines or Augusto Pinochet in Chile.

Russian interference and influence in the US election in your favour, more than the lies and hate you spewed, has certainly meant the demise of your presidency’s legitimacy at its very beginning. Your campaign of lies, hate and racism along with the well documented help you received from the Russians in damaging your opponent has made yours an illegitimate presidency.

But you, your supporters and surrogates argue the fact that you have been elected should be the end of discussion; perhaps so, particularly because the American electorate has never been considered to be well informed and aware anyway. As the late Gore Vidal once lamented, “Half of the Americans have never read a newspaper. Half never voted for President. One hopes it is the same half”.

So the world is the poorer for having to live with your less than legitimate Presidency. Do us a favour: Just grin and bear it.

The views expressed by the author are personal. Dosanjh is former Premier of British Columbia, and former Canadian Minister of Health.

U.S. Embassy Revokes Visa of Top India State Official for Allegedly Violating Religious Freedom

NEW DELHI Mar 18, 2005 — The U.S. Embassy on Friday denied a visa to the Hindu nationalist chief minister of India’s western Gujarat state over his role in 2002 religious riots. India slammed the decision, saying it showed a “lack of courtesy and sensitivity.”

Chief Minister Narendra Modi, a leader of India’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, was denied a diplomatic visa to travel to the United States and his existing tourist/business visa was revoked, a U.S. embassy spokesman said.

March 18, 2005 10:00 PM

Representatives of 70 organizations meet under the leadership of Shri Sunil Nayak, President of IANA at his Ramada Inn for an emergency meeting to decide the fate of a previously well planned and publicized event of Modiji’s reception and talk at New York’s famous Madison Square Garden on March 20. I represented Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America.

It is decided unanimously to continue with the program and work out in haste a live video link with Gandhinagar for Modiji to address the audience in New York.

We all go home after 1:00 AM not to rest or sleep but to start an email campaign to let the community know that the program was “on” and to circulate a petition and letter campaign to the US President against denying a visa to a democratically elected leader of a state in Bharat.

Intense work by all volunteers across the country on 19th and 20th.

March 20, 2005 7:00 PM

The program is scheduled on the evening of March 20, a working day. Madison Square Garden is booked. Cost? $100,000 for a four-hour slot. A technical team has been working day and night with Gandhinagar counterparts to arrange a seamless and glitch free, live, interactive video feed.

In the evening, heavy rains drench New York and surrounding areas. Working day, maddening rush hour traffic and the rains do not deter NRIs who are all up in arms against US State department’s unfair decision partly taken under pressure from the anti-Hindu, anti-Modi secular (!) brigade and fundamentalist Christian lobby that was at the receiving end when Modi government clamped down on fraudulent Christian conversions.

People come by busloads from the neighboring states of New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. In no time the 4000 capacity auditorium is houseful.

A royal chair is at the center of the stage. It is not occupied. It symbolizes absence of Shri Narendra Modi. After some preliminaries, the giant screen comes alive and Modiji’s face appears on it. The crowd erupts in a frenzy with sustained applause for minutes.

Modiji is a study in equanimity. He is opposite of the crowd that is agitated and restless. He addresses the crowd with poise and dignity. Then Question-answer starts. I remember two of them vividly. (1) What is your reaction to the visa cancellation? (2) What do you see in the future?

Answer (1): I believe only in action, not in reaction.
Answer (2): I envision a day when Bharat would progress to a level where instead of us standing in line for an American visa, Americans will stand in line for a visa to Bharat.

Having known Narendrabhai from the early eighties as a Sangh Pracharak, and believing that he was guided by a divine power, I had argued then with disheartened colleagues and friends that one day, Narendrabhai would be the Prime Minister of Bharat.

Hundreds of NRIs are looking at a giant live screen in the Times Square and still more than 10,000 are left without a ticket. Event? Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to address the Diaspora that had stood by him through thick and thin.

Location: US Capitol, Washington, DC

Audience: Joe Biden, Vice President, Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House; Mich McConnell, Majority Senate Leader; Nancy Pelosi, Minority House Leader and all Senators and Congressmen. It is the joint session of the U.S. Congress.

Speaker? Narendra Damodardas Modi, the Prime Minster of Bharat.

He speaks for almost one hour, in English. No written notes, no teleprompter. No Uh, Humm or any verbal clutches. No disjointed thoughts. He touches upon the history of the USA, shared values of the USA and Bharat, Influence of American constitution on B.R. Ambedkar, influence of Gandhiji on Martin Luther King, Jr., contribution of NRIs to the USA, Yoga’s popularity in the USA, climate change and carbon footprint, rural and agro-economy of Bharat, defense cooperation, terrorism from across the border, etc.

He spoke from a position of strength- He said, “cooperation and not domination”, a hint to the USA that Bharat will work with it on equal footing, not as a subservient junior partner. He ended with a quote from the famous poet Walt Whitman (1819-1892):

‘The constraints of past are behind us and foundations of future are firmly in place…The Orchestra have sufficiently tuned their instruments; the baton has given the signal. And there is a new symphony in play.’

He improvised it by adding: ‘Our relationship is primed for a momentous future. The constraints of the past are behind us.’

By my count, Modiji got 58 applauses and eight standing ovations in his one-hour speech.

Nanredrabhai, we are proud of you- from 2005 to 2016, what a journey it has been! I wish you Godspeed in making all your dreams a reality. You are not alone. I and millions are with you. Jay Hind!NaMo Swearing In photo_IMG_7358

Poor Branding Is Not Pakistan’s Biggest Problem

This incisive article from an expert on South Asia affairs got 27 comments, 22 of which are from Pakistani Muslims. I have responded to 20 of them. Please read.

PAKISTAN NAWAZ

In anticipation of the visit to Washington by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, scheduled for October 21-23, Pakistan’s public relations machinery has gone into over-drive to build expectations of a new partnership between Pakistan and the United States. Americans are expected to overlook everything that has happened in the past — from the notorious Dr A.Q. Khan’s nuclear proliferation to support for the Afghan Taliban to the discovery of Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad — and embrace this ‘important, valuable and strategic ally’ of the United States.

A recent piece on the Forbes website, titled “Pakistan-U.S. Nuclear Weapons Talks May Lower Chance Of Nuclear War With India” argues that Pakistan should be given a civil nuclear deal similar to the one given to India in 2005. The article builds upon a Washington Post column by David Ignatius who sought to remind Americans that they cannot afford to forget Afghanistan and Pakistan and in the process hinted at a civil nuclear deal, much coveted by Islamabad, as a means of winning over the trust of Pakistan.

The Ignatius piece was clearly an attempt to reignite interest in Pakistan at a time when Washington appears almost to have forgotten the nuclear-armed country where US marines located and killed Osama bin Laden only four years ago. But the Forbes article went farther in painting Pakistan as a victim of American foreign policy amnesia and was written by a University of Baltimore Professor, Charles Tiefer, who is not exactly known for direct expertise on South Asian affairs.

Forbes.com allows contributors to write and post directly on the website, which is whyan expert in government contracts, as Prof. Tiefer is described on the University of Baltimore website, could indulge his love for Pakistan without editorial scrutiny. In the last five months, Forbes.com has had four articles on Pakistan and all of them have been positively disposed -almost to the point of being puff pieces. That is absolutely the opposite of how other media outlets have been reporting on Pakistan for a while.

An earlier Forbes piece by Tiefer, in 2015 titled ‘Today’s India-Pakistan Armed Tensions – Will New U.S. Military and Nuclear Aid to Modi Inflame Them?‘ argued that the United States should not see India as a counterweight to China as that would “inflame India-Pakistan armed tensions.” Had the professor known as an expert in government contracts argued that it would be bad for U.S. government contracts, at least he would have been simply making a wrong argument about his own subject. In this instance, he only revealed his ignorance of the history of U.S.-Pakistan and U.S.-India relations.

The Americans provided Pakistan with weapons to fight communism from the 1950s to the 1980s. The Reagan administration hoped a militarily strong Pakistan would feel sufficiently secure to keep its promise of not building nuclear weapons. Instead, Pakistan used American weaponry to initiate wars against India in 1965, 1971, and 1999, failing to win any of them and running back to the US to ask for more assistance. Pakistan’s covert war against India continues unabated.

Since 9/11, Pakistan has received $23 billion in civilian and military assistance ostensibly to fight terrorists while the US State Department remains unable to certify to Congress that it is, in fact, acting against all terrorist groups operating from Pakistan’s soil. Unlike Pakistan, the US has no complaints against India of harboring global Jihadi terrorists or of exporting nuclear material to third countries. India’s bilateral trade with the US ($50 billion in 2014) is ten times the size f Pakistan’s trade with the US ($5 billion). Still Mr. Tiefer argues that the US should not give ‘military aid’ to India to keep Pakistan on America’s side.

Ironically, India has rarely sought or received American military aid, with notable exceptions like in the aftermath of the 1962 India-China war. India is not asking for and the US is not giving India military and nuclear aid. Instead India is purchasing American defense equipment that will help American companies and provide jobs to Americans. More importantly India has never used any weapon – bought or given- through a terrorist proxy ever, even against China or Pakistan.

Moreover, no Indian military operation has ever caused the death of Americans, whereas Pakistan’s policy in Afghanistan has led to numerous American deaths, both civilian and military. Mr. Tiefer nonchalantly writes that the various Pakistan jihadi groups like Lashkar e Taiba and Haqqani network “work with Pakistan’s powerful intelligence service, ISI” but does not see that as reason for the US to shun Pakistan.

He argues that if the United States continues siding with India against China this will “antagonize Pakistan” and lead “the potentially scariest confrontation in the world.” In effect, he is saying that Pakistan’s sponsorship of jihadi groups should not come in the way of it being an American ally but the US must not ally with India because of Pakistan’s fear of India!!

The naiveté is hardly limited to the security arena. In August 2015, Forbes ran an article asking for a dramatic overhaul of US-Pakistan ties and pitching a US-Pakistan Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT). Another Forbes article attempted to sell Pakistan’s threat of going deeper into China’s embrace, changing the entire region around it, and insinuating that the United States should compete with China in currying Pakistan’s favor.

The author of the first article, titled ‘Pakistan: The Next Colombia Success Story?’ Daniel Runde, too was a novice as far as knowledge of Pakistan is concerned. Had he worked on Pakistan for any length of time he would have known that Pakistan is the only American ally that has failed to sustain significant growth or human development even after receiving more than $40 billion in US aid since 1950.

Mr. Runde should have examined why US aid to Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and even Europe under the Marshal Plan catalyzed their economies into self-sustaining growth while the largesse towards Pakistan only increased Pakistan’s dependence. The reason lies more in how Pakistan spent that money, in how its military and intelligence service view their ties with the US and in how disproportionately large the military is to the size of the country’s economy and any real threats it faces.

Mr. Runde suggests, that Pakistan suffers from “a terrible country brand.” But certain harsh realities persist and are not just a ‘branding’ problem. The politicized Pakistan army may have conducted some military operations against militants responsible for attacks inside Pakistan but the Pakistani army is still following its old policy of sparing terrorists targeting India, Afghanistan and the United States. Sartaj Aziz, advisor to Premier Sharif on National Security and foreign affairs, has openly asked, “Why should Pakistan target militants that do not threaten the country’s security?

Despite dealing with Pakistan for decades some Americans still seem to believe they can change Pakistan’s behavior by giving in to its demands or responding favorably to its PR efforts. Pakistan needs to change its militarized national mindset and is more likely to reform under fear of international isolation than in response to praise based on falsehoods. Both the U.S. and Pakistan might benefit more from recognizing the history of the relationship and correcting their course substantively instead of obsessing only about appearances.

Controversial chapter on AAP leader Medha Patkar removed from NBT book

New Delhi, September 18: National Book Trust (NBT) has decided to drop an objectionable chapter on Narmada Bacha Andolan(NBA) founder and Aam Admi Party Leader, Medha Patkar, from a book titled “Children who made it big” after Ahmedabad based NGO, National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL), raised an objection.

NCCL President V K Saxena, in June 2002 wrote a detailed letter to Director NBT and requested to forthwith delete the chapter “The Bus stop” on Medha Patkar, “as it is about a person having doubtful integrity and dubious contributions to the nation.”

NCCL President was pursuing this matter since 2002 and in June 2014, he wrote a letter to HRD Minister, Smirti Irani which was forwarded by her to the Director, NBT, for consideration.

Saxena in his letter stated “The author or the publisher of the book “Children…” has perhaps unwittingly committed a great error of judgment by bracketing Medha Patkar with illustrious sons of the soil like M.S. Swaminathan, the Father of Green Revolution, and Ruskin Bond, one of the finest English writers in the world. This has grossly lowered the importance of the book and has put on stake the reputation of National Book Trust – known for publishing quality books on indisputable topics and unquestionable persons.”
“The book as it has been prescribed as a Textbook for the students of Class VII, which might leave unduly high impressions about a highly undeserving person in the minds of young students.”

“For instance, the chapter on Medha Patkar, titled “The Bus Stop” in “Children Who Made It Big” at one place quotes her saying, “How can people be so insensitive to the misery of another human being” does not just fit in her true character. In the guise of environmental protection of Narmada Valley upstream the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) dam, she has been totally insensitive and cruel to over three crore people living downstream in the drought-prone areas of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.” Saxena Said.

Saxena to NBT director stated that Patkar’s brief life sketch in “A Champion of the Downtrodden” is another misnomer. She claims herself to be the messiah of the project-affected persons. But the very fact that her “Andolan” is supported by ‘more than ten countries, the countries which have harnessed their hydel potential to the maximum capacity, exposes her links with countries, which do not want the progress of India.”

We take this opportunity to bring to your notice the some of her anti-national activities, just in case they have missed your attention. Several cases have been filed against Patkar and NBA in various courts of the country.

NCCL President said, “We have published various sensitive letters of NBA in the form of an advertisement in the leading newspapers of the country to show her real activities. She has not spared even the apex court of the country. We have supplied all the documentary evidence, so far collected against this institution, to the Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI, for suitable action for spreading misinformation.”

NCCL was the first institution in the country, which exposed Patkar and her NBA, and proved that she is working as a stooge of foreign powers, hell-bent to halt the progress of this country.

NCCL in a statement says that NBT after considering all the documentary evidence provided by the NCCL President decided to remove the Chapter on Patkar which is a big victory for NCCL President, V K Saxena, who was the first person to in the Country to expose the true face of Medha Patkar.

Justice for Murdered Dr. Divyendu Sinha- Please Sign the petition Last Date: October 16

Dear Friends:

Namaste. Almost three and a half years back, Dr. Divyendu Sinha, a brilliant computer scientist was beaten to death close to his home in Old Bridge, NJ while out on an evening stroll on June 25, 2010. Four teenagers attacked him while one teenager waited with a get-away car.

               Divyendu Sinha

All five were charge as adult. However, Sinha family had nothing but set backs. One defendant, Steven Contreras, acquitted of most serious charge of murder, pleaded guilty in a plea bargain and would be sentenced to no more than four years. Other two, Julian Daley and Christopher Conway also took a plea deal without ever going to trial and would receive up to 8 and 15 years respectively.

The tragedy was compounded when on September 30th, a jury returned a verdict  of Not Guilty on nine of 10 counts, including charge of murder for remaining two defendants, Christian Tinli and Cash Johnson. This in face of overwhelming evidence and eyewitness testimony is nothing short of gross injustice to the Sinha family and a slap on the law abiding citizens of this country. Imagine instead of spending rest of their lives in a prison as the punishment, together these five criminals will spend no more than 23 years, that is less than five years on average.

We have created a petition asking the Judge Bradley Ferencz to ignore the plea deal and sentence the convicts to the maximum prison time allowed by the law. We have hardly eight days to collect thousands of signatures as we need to submit the signatures to the judge on October 16. Sentencing date is October 18.

Please sign the petition at the following link and post it on your social media (Facebook, Google+, twitter, blog, Reddit, etc.) and broadcast it to your email groups as soon as possible.
